Free Leadership Development Training
The Burdett Trust for Nursing is partnering with The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare to launch a series of free-to-access courses for nurses and midwives.
The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH), a UK charity driving carbon reduction in healthcare since 2008, announces a transformative educational programme aimed at empowering nurses and midwives to address climate change and health inequalities, and improving sustainable practice education and training across the UK.
Recognising climate change as a global health crisis, CSH proposes a structured, tiered educational initiative to equip healthcare professionals with the skills to integrate sustainability into practice. The programme focuses on improving population health, promoting climate justice, and addressing health disparities. It will offer virtual training to over 2,300 nurses and midwives, from frontline workers to senior leaders, covering climate literacy, sustainability, and social justice.
Key Programme Features:
⦁ Tier 1, Foundational Course: 1,000 frontline nurses and midwives annually will gain essential skills to integrate sustainable practices and tackle climate-related health inequalities (2,000 over the course of the whole project)
⦁ Tier 2, Technical Course: 100 service leads will deepen their expertise in sustainability and quality improvement frameworks, advancing climate-conscious, equitable healthcare (200 over the course of the whole project)
⦁ Tier 3, Leadership Programme: 60 senior leaders will develop the capacity to champion sustainability in healthcare strategy and policy (120 over the course of the whole project)
This initiative will leave a legacy of a sustainable, equitable health and social care system, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement across the sector. Nurses and midwives will be positioned to lead change, ensuring healthcare systems contribute to a sustainable, fairer future for all communities.
A Lasting Legacy: Scaling Impact Beyond Initial Funding
The programme will train over 2,300 nurses and midwives in sustainable healthcare principles. Graduates will share knowledge through CSH’s online professional networks, ensuring a lasting impact across the profession. Additionally, up to 50 nurse and midwife educators will have the opportunity to become CSH-accredited facilitators, extending the programme’s reach for years to come.
